Aims and Objectives
In setting out its aims for the years to 2002, the Learning Partnership has adopted practical steps towards success. Each aim has clear objectives, which members believe are realistic and achievable. Aims and Objectives
AIMS   OBJECTIVES
1. Co-ordinate local action to create a more coherent, effective and accessible set of local arrangements for lifelong learning, careers advice and student support.   1. Establish a forum for key partners to work together to provide a coherent learning service to the community.
2. Identify and address gaps in provision for young people and adults.   2a. Identify how partners will seek to raise attainment of young people and adults.
2b. Encourage the business community to place greater importance on education and training.
3. Widen participation to include those who are under-represented in education and training.   3a. Encourage access to education and training by under-represented groups and those who have opted out of the education system.
3b. Work with local and national initiatives to tackle barriers to participation.
4. Set local targets, linked to national targets with clearly defined actions to achieve them.   4a. Develop an accurate database of information on activity and achievement within the borough.
4b. Set targets for young people and adults and identify how the Partnership is tackling the issues around NVQ levels.
5. Prepare for the establishment of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC)   5a. Develop a clear strategy for working with the Learning and Skills Council.
5b. Develop closer links with other Learning Partnerships in the LSC region.
